The ability of Microsoft
Windows VistaTM to zoom the
displayed items in and out by putting high-resolution 256x256 image
inside an icon is cool even it is not new. It was possible in XP but the
problem is that an icon would occupy more than 400kB on disk. In Microsoft
Windows VistaTM, The 256x256 images in icon may be stored and
compressed as PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. With PNG compression, the
size of an icon is reduced and because PNG is loss-less and supports 8bit alpha
channel, the quality of icon is not lowered.
